The Organising Committee is delighted to confirm this theme will continue for PCC 2027. This enables authors to share the early stage progress of their work, even though there are no results for the time being. Accepted abstracts submitted to this theme will not be published, rather this is a way to share your work, either as a poster or in a Free Paper session – a format will be offered by the Abstract Review Committee.
Online abstract submissions are invited for original research relevant to palliative care and in consideration of the conference theme – Science and Spirit: Living and Dying in Modern Times.
Audits and service evaluations of a sufficient standard will also be considered.-
Case Reports will be evaluated on their own individual merit and will only be accepted if they are unusual cases or offer a real learning experience. Please list “Case Report” at the beginning of the abstract title.

CONSENT: Authors are responsible for appropriate consent being obtained prior to submission. It will be assumed that by submitting a Case Report, the author confirms any necessary consent has been obtained from the patient or their representative. If consent was not deemed necessary, the responsibility for this decision lies with the author. Please indicate at the end of your Report whether consent was obtained/not deemed required. (This will not count to the word count)

Terms/statements used in abstracts should be understandable (or explained) to a national/international audience.

Submissions under the Ethics Theme may include reports of empirical studies, for instance studies of ethics in practice, and these should follow a standard format; other ethics submissions need not follow this format and should summarise the work that has been done or the argument that will be presented.
Data should be submitted in an original format if it has already been published or presented elsewhere.
Abstracts are restricted to a maximum of 300 words, which does not include the title of the abstract, or any references an author may choose to list.

Author Index Format (provided within the online publication of accepted abstracts)
To ensure the Author Index is accurate, and each author is listed only once, please list all authors in the following format: Forename Surname, Forename Surname e.g., Annabelle Jones, Joseph Brown, etc-
Authors are not required to indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation. At review, each submitted abstract will be scored by 3 reviewers from the Abstract Review Committee. The top scoring abstracts will be considered for oral presentation within the conference Programme.

Oral Presentations - The number of oral abstract presentations is restricted by the time available within the conference Programme. The duration of oral presentations will be confirmed at the time of acceptance.

Posters - Authors of abstracts accepted for poster presentation will be required to produce a poster, which will need to be displayed within the Poster Gallery for one day of the conference.

Submitters are permitted to be the First/Presenting Author on a maximum of two abstracts. The number of abstracts you can co-author is unlimited, however, attending authors may present a maximum of 2 accepted abstracts. For each accepted abstract, a Presenting Author must register to attend at least one day of the conference, no later than Friday 22 January 2027.
Any listed co-author may attend the conference as Presenting Author. Abstract submissions with no Presenting Author registered by 17:00 hrs GMT on Friday 22 January 2027 will automatically be withdrawn, and the abstract will not be forwarded for publication. There can be no exceptions.
The main Call for Papers is open between Tuesday 1 September 2026 and Friday 16 October 2026. The submitting author will receive an email confirming receipt of the abstract submission. If this is not immediately received, please check your Junk/Spam/Trash folders. If no email is received within 24 hours of submission, please advise the conference organiser via email admin@pccongress.org.uk
The submitting Author will receive an email notifying the outcome of each abstract submission no later than Friday 20 November 2026.
We will provide a Visa Application support letter upon request, for all accepted oral and poster presenters. Should a Visa Application be unsuccessful, the conference registration fee incurred will be reimbursed.
Accepted abstracts, excepting those submitted to the Work in Progress theme, will be published online, in the BMJ Supportive and Palliative Care journal. By submitting an abstract, you are agreeing to its publication in the journal. Submitting Authors are responsible for the content of their abstract.
For clarity, abstracts will not be proofread by a medical professional before publication.
