Paul Howard is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Mountbatten Hospice on the Isle of Wight. He trained in general then palliative medicine in the East Midlands. He has a strong interest in therapeutics and medicines optimisation. For the Palliative Care Formulary, he edits the neuropharmacology sections, including adjuvant analgesia, antidepressants, antiepileptics, antipsychotics, psychostimulants, cannabinoids, and benzodiazepines. In his clinical practice, his interests include improving care for crises and ‘unplanned dying’ and the management of opioid-poorly responsive pain.
